This is the "standard" blade SEARS is putting on all their Craftsman mowers. It came installed on my new (Spring 09) self-propelled 22" Mulching deck (with side discharge) mower. Because my town no longer collects clippings I only mulch. I was totally disappointed by the cutting quality, which was leaving lines & clumps of cut grass, and would bog down the mower in anything wet. I was ready to return the mower after the 4th mowing, but instead I installed the three year old blade (#141114) from my old Craftsman push mower, and the improvement was amazing! The remainder of the summer cutting was flawless. Just to test myself I reinstalled the Original (#406713) aka 71-33256 blade (of this review), and the poor performance was back. This blade is probably good for Bagging, and maybe for Side Discharge, but it is terrible for Mulching.
If you want a Mulching blade then buy a Sears 71-33365 (#141114) blade.
Seems like we go through these quite often. My husband has a gift of mowing over rocks an very large rocks. Even the best blades can't handle hitting huge rocks. For the money, these are very good quality.
Have simply removed/sharpened old blade since getting mower a few years ago! Best to have a second one; helpful clerk helped me know I had correct one at Coshocton store.
My lawnmower blade hit a rock, So, I took the mower apart, purchased the blade. It was easy to replace it at Sears!
My mower came with a damaged blade. It was tearing my grass to shreds and was making the tops of the grass turn brown. I decided to replace the blade with this one and was very happy when it actually cut the grass nice. My lawn looks nice and green now.
I bought this as a replacement for my 22" Toro. I have cut the grass twice so far after replacing the blade, and it is doing an excellent job mulching the clippings.
This item was just what I needed. My grass got a clean cut that will help it stay healthy.
