I was brought up on Craftsman tools and this was not for my husband, but for me. When it was time to buy a table-saw Sears was the only choice. With the long standing Craftsman name table-saw in hand I went home to set this up. My husband and I set it up in under 45 minutes to and hour and we were both pleased with the ease of the construction. When it was time to put the unit to use the table was unsteady and even though screws stayed in the plastic the plastic broke free from the table causing the extension arm to fall off. About halfway into building a book case the lock down mechanisum for the other arm broke off. When I was pushing the boards through, (3/4 inch plywood) the table would rock and become unstable feeling. Enough so that we will be taking the table back. I must say I am so disappointed and hope that time has not change the quality of Craftsman tools.
Like the title said. Stable too.
I am very satisfied with this table saw. This is my fourth Craftsman 10" table saw, & I was very pleased with each & every one I bought & used. In regards to the plastic parts, the user must be very careful in tightening the slides. If it is very hard to tighten the slides, then investigate the cause before you break them. I did not have any problems so far with this table saw and have been using it for months building cabinets for my garage.
Bought this as a gift for someone who was doing a lot of work on our house so I haven't used it myself but the recipient loves it! Hasn't had any problems with it and is very mobile. He is extremely satisfied with the product.
I researched and viewed several table saws in this price range, and was willing to spring for a few more coins if it did my type of jobs better. But, portability was important to me even though I use it around the house, and customer reviews highlighted a lot of issues in other brands. The Craftsman 28463 seemed like the best choice, then it surprised me with some additional features like a table that expands on two sides, not just one. The vacuum port (dust bag) is important when I use it indoors and my shop vac plugs right in. All around winner for a good price.
This is a very good portable table saw for the money. I made a review video for this table saw, you can see it here ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k39X-D9R3zI ... I shopped around a lot for a 10 inch table saw before buying this one and i could not find a better saw for the money. Despite what i have read in other reviews about this saw bogging down or losing power while ripping or cutting a 2x4 i have not had any problems ripping or cutting a 2x4 with this saw, however, i did install a good quality blade before even using it for the first time and i recommend buying a quality blade for this saw right from the start. the blade it comes with may not be the best quality and for a saw of any type to work properly it really needs a good blade. so far i have ripped and cut a lot of wood (hard and soft) of different thicknesses without any problems. some people have stated that the saw is unstable but mine seems to be very stable. while assembling the wheels i did find some play in the sleeves that go into the wheel so i simply took some of the play away from the sleeves on my grinder (be careful not to take to much off the sleeves if you grind them down) also, some people have stated that the instruction manual is hard to follow or understand but i did not have any problems following or understanding the manual it was straight forward and easy to understand, the setup for this saw is very easy and only took me about 30 minutes to assemble. Right out of the box i was able to use it without any major adjustments needed. the fence it comes with works well and my fence has been giving me accurate square rips and cuts without a problem. i did have to make a minor adjustment to the little size indicator on the fence to get the size dialed in but i think that is to be expected for any table saw. the miter gauge slots in the table are the standard 3/4'' x 3/8'' so using a cross cut sled can be done on this saw (i made one for mine) i also saw that some people have said that the blade guard, anti-kickback pawls and river knife were hard to attach, i have not had any problems with either one and they all fit very snug and are easy to attach or remove. overall i am happy with this table saw and this table saw is very good for light work and DIY home projects.
This a great saw for the home woodworker. It has plenty of power for ripping and cutting wood. The wheels make it super easy for portability which is especially handy for the woodworking shop where space is limited. Craftsman just means quality.
I really need a table saw for making small accurate wooden parts about 5 times a year. I gave away my old 4 legged belt driven 10" Craftsman last year and didn't have space to replace it. I got this hoping I could put up with the noise I expected. Was very pleasantly surprised; About the same noise as the old saw . Very nice accurate cuts. I would not use it to rip full 3/4" thick full plywood sheets but it can handle half a sheet very easily. It is very easy to deploy and put away. It stays put away in my 2 car garage with the van and the car with plenty of room to spare. I use mine without the plastic blade guard.
After hours of assembly from poor documentation, was able to finally use the saw. While made in China, it is a decent quality saw and represents Craftsman well. The wheels feature is very nice to move around to clean below the saw. Good product. I wish the sides extended but for price point I understand why.
