I bought red so I can tell it apart from the family toaster, as I am on gluten free diet because of allergies, I can't have the crumbs from wheat in my diet. It has many different settings for the perfect toast. I love the red color looks really nice on top of my cupboard , the little **** fell off once I think I snapped it into place to stay now.
I was willing to try this toaster based on a few reviews - I think one of the reviewers obviously had a defective toaster, and others were positive. The first round of toast was even and mildly toasted at the '5' setting. There was a strong plastic smell, which I figured would dissipate. Several minutes later I tried to "burn out" the plastic smell by setting to toaster to '9' for a round. By the time it clicked off, the edges of the plastic outer case were wrinkly around the toast slots, and were soft of the touch. No way Sears!
Reviews of many toasters, regardless of price, seem to show that nearly every model sometimes has duds. I bought this model at my local Sears with that in mind -- if I happened to get a lemon, I could return it easily. Luckily, the one I got works perfectly. I've had it for about a month now, and it makes beautiful, evenly toasted, crispy toast. I really like this toaster, and it was a great price.
I have only owned this toaster for a few months but so far, so good. It is an average toaster. Looks good but a bright red, not the deep red you find in most red kitchen appliances. It seems to heat a little slower than most toasters I have owned which is the biggest draw back to me since I have a family of five and purchased the 2-slice. Probably would have been fine with the 4-slice but overall the toaster is fine. Nothing really special and if I had it to do over again, I don't think I would have paid the price for just an average toaster.
Looks like they changed the look of this toaster, but my version died after a year. Even when brand new it didn't work properly. We discovered very quickly that if you pushed one of the buttons like defrost, the button would get stuck. I would not buy a Kenmore toaster again.
Toasts only one side of bread when only one slice is put in. Lever broke off after third use.
